For most of my career, I believed helping animals meant being in the room.

Consulting. Examining. Treating.
Stethoscope around my neck. Clock ticking. Client waiting.

That was the only version of “veterinary impact” I’d ever seen.

And for a long time, that version was enough.

But as the years went on, something changed.
 Not in how much I loved animals, but in how much I was giving of myself, without anything left to give at home.

I was burning out.
Missing time with my family.
Feeling stretched thin and emotionally spent.

And the guilt? It was heavy.
