Is Your Mindset Blocking Your Online Income? 7 Beliefs That Might Be Holding You Back (and How to Ditch Them)
Aug 28, 2025
Let’s be real, starting something new always comes with a little fear.
Especially when that “something new” is stepping into the world of online income as a veterinary professional. It’s exciting, full of possibility… and sometimes totally overwhelming.
What I’ve learned after working with so many vet pros is this:
The biggest thing holding you back usually isn’t a lack of time, skills, or ideas, it’s mindset.
So today, let’s shine a light on some of the most common mindset blocks that might be quietly keeping you stuck… and how to shift them.
1. “I’m not techy enough to do this.”
This one comes up a lot.
You don’t need to be a tech wizard to sell a digital product or grow an audience online. These days, there are plug-and-play tools, simple templates, and even done-for-you content to get you going.
Try this instead:
"I don’t have to know everything. I just need to take the next step."
2. “I don’t know where to start.”
Totally fair, the online world can feel like a maze. But starting doesn’t mean building a website, launching a course, or having it all figured out.
You just need to:
- Pick a problem you know how to solve
- Create something simple to help
- Offer it to people who need it
Remember: Action creates clarity. You won’t get clear sitting on the sidelines.
3. “What if no one buys from me?”
This fear can stop even the smartest vet pros in their tracks. But here’s the truth: someone out there is looking for what you know. You’ve helped so many in-clinic , now you just need to package that knowledge and reach people beyond your postcode.
Instead of fearing crickets, ask:
"What’s the one thing I wish every pet owner knew, and how can I teach it online?"
4. “I’m not an expert, who would listen to me?”
You don’t need to be the world’s leading specialist to be helpful. You just need to know more than the person you’re helping.
You’re already seen as an expert by your clients every day. Online is no different, it’s just a new way of sharing that expertise.
5. “I feel guilty making money outside of clinical work.”
This one runs deep, especially for those of us who got into vet med to help, not to sell.
But here’s the thing: earning money online doesn’t make you greedy.
It gives you flexibility. It creates options.
It lets you help MORE people and pets, and have a life you love while doing it.
6. “It has to be perfect before I put it out there.”
Perfectionism is just procrastination in disguise.
You can tweak, polish, and refine later, but if you never launch, you never help anyone.
Most successful online business owners started messy, small, and slightly scared. You can too.
Progress over perfection. Always.
7. “Maybe later… I’m just too busy right now.”
I get it. You’re working, caring, parenting, living. But waiting for the “perfect time” often means waiting forever.
Even 30 minutes a week adds up.
One PDF. One video. One post. That’s how it starts.
You don’t need a full-time effort, just a small, consistent one.
Final Thought
Mindset blocks are normal. They don’t mean you’re not capable, they just mean you’re human.
But if you want to build something that gives you freedom, flexibility, and future options, the best time to start is now.
Even if it’s a little messy. Even if you’re not sure where it will lead.
You’ve already done the hard part, becoming a veterinary professional.
Sharing that expertise online? That’s the next beautiful step.
